Volunteer Programme

St George's Community Centre recognises the value of volunteers and aims to provide local people with constructive and relevant volunteering opportunities to help enable them gain new skills and experiences as well as create new friendships.

If you have any spare time at all, whether it be an hour or more, and are willing and able to help out then drop into the Centre or ring us.

We have many different roles available below-(just click over the blue words for further description of role):

Room Hire

St George’s Community Centre is a warm, welcoming modern building close to Wakefield City Centre & just by motorway links.

We have a variety of rooms and spaces available to hire, whether it’s for a group activity, training session, seminar, interviewing, on a one-off or regular basis.

We have an IT suite and training rooms with laptops and Wi-Fi connection, OHP’s, flip charts, multimedia projector, TV, video/DVD, and whiteboards.

We also have more generous rooms suitable for larger conferences and seminars.

Whatever the purpose of your meeting we can adapt the layout and facilities of the room to suit your individual needs.

The building has disabled access, toilets and offers free parking.

As well as offering tea, coffee and refreshments our Coffee Shop staff can provide catering services. Please ask for details when booking.

We have office space to let at reasonable rates. This includes office and all office desks. Contact the community centre to find out prices.

Get a Job

The “Get a Job” project delivers tailored help to people, young people and those disabled being alongside them in their search for work or self-employment.

This includes CV rewriting, supported completion of applications, sourcing vacancies, proactively contacting employers, taking to interviews and scoping business ideas.

Currently, we offer a work club which is on Monday’s 1-4pm. We have also recently employed a work advisor to give more specific help to individuals and offer additional sessions.

Free Counselling

St George's Community Centre are working with the Well Women Centre to offer FREE Counselling.

On Mondays by appointment only for women aged 16+ at St George's Community Centre

Age Uk Wakefield District

St George's Community Centre are working in partnership with Age Uk Wakefield District

Supporting older people in the community- working in partnership offering information, advice and support for people over 50

Call in to St George’s Community Centre to request a referral alternatively, visit the Drop-In service held:first Friday every month 11am to 2pm

Providing individual help on many issues such as:

pensions & benefits/making your home safe & secure/accessing social activities/advocacy/finding the care you need/caring for family members

Dragon Community Transport

St George's will be hiring the minibus with a driver included. The minibus has 17 seats, one for the driver and 16 passengers.

It can accommodate two manual wheelchairs or one electric, please note this effects seating capacity.

The costs to hire the minibus are £16 per hour for non-members and £15 per hour for members.

Dragon Community Transport are asking groups/hirers to become members at a yearly cost of £10.
